WEEK 3

This week was a bit of a transition week. After deciding to head north in an effort to beat the heat, we drove from southern Utah to southern Montana and didn’t stay at any one place for more than two nights. We left Zion and spent the weekend at the Great Salt Lake Marina just outside Salt Lake City, Utah. It was fun to see and I’m not the only one to think so—busloads of tourists regularly came and went for a peak at the water (literally, busloads).  If you want to see highlights from my time in Utah, check out my Youtube video here.

After Salt Lake, we headed into Idaho for a secluded spot in Soda Springs at Blackfoot Reservoir. I was actually impressed with this campground. Everything seemed well-kept and the scenery and sunsets were gorgeous. After spending a week in Zion followed with Salt Lake City, it was nice to get out of the crowds.

Only that didn’t last long. After Idaho, we drove to Yellowstone National Park and, of course, there were mega-crowds and no spots available. So we spent the night in Teton National Park and moved on the next day. We stayed at Camp Three Forks and it turned out to be a nice retreat.

This week was a bit surprising for me in many different ways, from maintaining my enthusiasm for full-time RVing to wanting to leave Yellowstone, but all-in-all–another successful week in the books.

HIGHLIGHTS

-Camping right on The Great Salt Lake. This was a no-frills camping experience but we had water and electricity and a spot as close as you can get to the Lake! Nice and affordable campsite, but beware the smell. Nothing that can be done about that, I guess. Another kind of gross thing, but also kind of cool, was the ever-present swarm of tiny flies. At first I couldn’t tell they were even there, it just looked like part of the sand. But then I realized that each time I moved, a black wave moved with me.
